- In recent years, advances have been made in the application of electrodynamic vibration exciters for performing shock tests specified in terms of the response spectrum. Instrumentation has been designed and is available to synthesize and control a shock excitation that has the desired shock spectrum. Some test specifications, especially those pertaining to pyrotechnic environments, require very high shock spectrum amplitudes-some as high as 10,000 g. These high levels exceed the capability of most vibration exciters, particularly for large test loads.Resonant fixtures have been utilized to attain high level vibration amplitudes. However, the desired results can be achieved only over a very narrow frequency band. To a much greater extent, resonant fixtures can be used to attain high shock response amplitudes over the entire frequency range of interest in shock synthesis testing with vibration exciters
