For years now, differentials have been used in both on and off highway vehicles, of the single or multidrive axle varieties. The vast majority of differential applications have been in the axle itself. Recently, there has been a trend in the application and use of interaxle differentials in multidrive axle vehicles. This paper will discuss the concepts and applications of interaxle differentials in both on and off highway vehicles. Detroit Automotive Products believes there is a definite design trend for interaxle differentials and overrunning clutches in the more sophisticated on and off highway vehicles currently being developed
