Summary:

The significant problems encountered in the development of the environmental control system for the command and service modules of the Apollo spacecraft are described in this paper. Three problem areas and the solutions are discussed in detail: corrosion in the coldplates, deficiencies in the heat-rejection capability of the space radiator, and performance defects in the evaporator. A summary of the constraints imposed upon the environmental control system designer because of spacecraft and mission considerations is given.
