To demonstrate an electromagnetic approach to Automatic Performance Monitoring and Recording, without reference to or association with sonic, spectrometric or other philosophies, some "golden rules" are proposed for the design and development of the hardware and software packages. Those parameters considered essential for efficient monitoring of the jet engine are argued, and the methodology of data collection is detailed.
