Summary:
A railcar built by The Budd Company and propelled by two small gas turbine engines has completed nine months of testing simulating high speed, stop-and-go commuter service. The major accomplishment of this program has been to demonstrate the compatibility of the small gas turbine with a heavy-duty railroad environment. The selection and application of the gas turbine engine and associated power transmission system is discussed along with some of the highlights of the test results
