- Summary:
- WARTIME developments in the heat-treatment of steel indicate that we are headed for an era in which our expanded knowledge will result in an increase in the actual strength of highly stressed parts, thereby permitting an important reduction in the so called "factor of ignorance."For this event to occur, however, it will not be enough to take advantage of recent developments in such processes as isothermal and martempering treatments. It will also be necessary, Mr. McQuaid warns, for the metallurgist, the designer, and the production engineer to work together much more closely than has generally been true in the past, during the development of any important design, including the preparation of the stress analysis
