Summary:
The effect of the flight environment on the severity of the lubrication requirements of the Pratt and Whitney candidate SST engine is reviewed and compared with current commercial turbofan engines. The characteristics of currently available lubricants are examined. The deisgn features of the SST engine aimed at reducing lubricant system stress are discussed. The conclusion is drawn that several type II oils currently available will meet the requirements established by the P and WA SST engine
