OUT of the hardships arising from wartime shortages of vehicles, replacement part, and manpower have come some developments that are bound to contribute real benefit to future operation of fleets.Wartime shortages of vehicles and parts, for instance, have made many operators conscious of the value of preventive maintenance who never were before, and, Mr. Page feels, much of this knowledge will be remembered and used even after vehicles and parts are plentiful once more.Then there is the very controversial subject of wear allowance. At the request of the Army, an SAE committee is now studying this problem, and the report of this committee should be of value to maintenance men.Shortages of manpower have also brought developments. Driver training programs have been receiving a great deal more attention and consideration, Mr. Page says, as it is becoming realized more widely that lower maintenance costs will result from such programs
