- Summary:
- The world is seeing a rise in demand for UAVs due to their versatile applications and aptness for widespread use. GPS signal is a critical input for safe and accurate navigation of UAS/UAV. It is now being globally recognized that The GPS (Global Positioning System) is susceptible to jamming and can be suppressed or lost when in urban canyons and dense metro locations. Jamming can be easily initiated using cheap jammers sold online and easily accessible. For both defense and commercial enterprise applications, GPS jamming continues to be a GAP and a barrier to FULL BVLOS autonomous drone operations. With an increasing number of UAV users relying on precise location services to carry out their everyday tasks, public safety and the country's defense positions (especially at border regions) would be jeopardized if the GPS was to be interfered with or even shut down intentionally or accidentally. As a result, in addition to safeguarding the system against unauthorized usage, it is critical to assure signal consistency at all times. Several standard bodies such as the SAE and ANSI standards have already documented the GAP and have begun to identify solutions to address the gap. Anti-jamming technologies are now being required in UAS and UAM systems in several US and international countries. Honeywell and infiniDome have jointly developed a "Robust Navigation System" that provides a multilayer resiliency against loss of GPS. This system is being utilized by several tier 1 UAS manufacturers and defense suppliers. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE the Indian government evaluate and mandate measures for GPS jam-proofing in their present and future systems to enable safe operations of UAS/UAV in defense and civilianapplications. Below we provide a few use cases and how a Robust Navigation System will provide safety and resiliency in operations
