Summary:
The frequent acquisition of vehicle data via telematics and its analysis by back-end systems allow car manufacturers to introduce new services and to improve internal vehicle lifecycle processes. This paper describes the technical concept and prototypical implementation of a vehicle condition monitoring system for future passenger cars. The basic idea of such distributed system is to acquire vehicle sensor data and to frequently transfer processed and aggregated data to off-board servers for further processing, archiving and analysis. The results of this analysis will be utilized for Internet based repair and maintenance services, for example in connection with a customer portal. In addition, the results will be used to optimize engineering and quality processes
