Summary:

At present R and D activities on possible application of magnesium alloys in the automotive industry are intensively carried out. A manufacture of car body components is tried out and the results are quite positive. At the same time this factor provokes a large complex of problems with regard to production of sheets and slabs to be solved. First of all, this is keeping of sheet and slab overall dimensions and assuring of high quality. Another major task is setting-up of a production of large volume of slabs and sheets, id est production facilities for slab casting and sheet rolling.This paper describes some important trends in developing magnesium alloys slab casting, rolling and potential outputs
