Summary:

In 1997, the Medford Twp. Board of Education, in conjunction with the New Jersey Division of Energy and the U.S. Department of Energy, began using a 20% blend of biodiesel fuel and low-sulfur diesel, known as B20, in its school bus fleet. Biodiesel is a diesel fuel substitute made from a renewable, organic source. Since the project's inception, the school district has used 132,000 gallons of B20, with no difference in vehicle performance, and no change in daily operations. Public acceptance has been high, due to a noticeable reduction in noxious odors and soot, resulting in an enhanced transportation environment
