- Summary:
- A marked increase in both the crew size of modern orbital stations and duration of their autonomous existence has made ever strict demands on the maintenance of gas composition system in manned modules, in particular, on the decrease in carbonic gas concentration. One of possible approaches to tackling the above issue is carbonic gas concentrating and provision of the crew with oxygen by means of electrochemical method with the use of CO disproportionation catalytic reactor.2CO C + CO2For the purpose of regime optimisation, CO2 electrochemical concentrator and CO disproportionation catalytic reactor were investigated in the system of gas concentration maintenance.By means of a computer model incorporating equations of transfer of mass, impulse, energy and generalised entropy, the rate of CO2 elimination and CO conversion into carbonic gas and graphite was estimated in terms of the contacting time, catalyst activity, temperature, gas mixture, reactor size, ratio of the base gas mixture to its volume flow rate. The analysis of generalised characteristics allows for assessing the impact of superficial velocity within the temperature span of 400-500 °C on the reactor capacity.Constructive proposals were framed with regard to the increased efficiency of reactor functioning and recommendations made on the gas concentration maintenance system structure of orbital stations of new generation
