- Summary:
- The work revealed the possibility to improve physical, mechanical properties of oxide aluminum-based ceramic composite by CrC-based thin coatings produced by the metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. The CrC coatings heal various surface defects of the oxide aluminum that strengths and toughs the composite. The nanoindentation hardness were compared between the sample series and related to the microstructure, phase composition, and residual stress obtained by transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and substrate curvature technique, respectively. For both series, fracture toughness was lower for the multilayer than the corresponding homogeneous films
