- Summary:
- The passenger compartment noise and vibrations is gaining more and more attention from all Automotive manufacturers because of increasing customer awareness for driving comfort.Intake system noise or Induction noise of IC engines in vehicles is known to be the biggest concern in vehicle acoustics since long time. Design of Air filter and corresponding air ducts or hoses are mainly worked out from packaging, dust filtering efficiency and engine performance point of view. Even though Automotive manufacturers provide efforts for improving acoustic performance of Intake system by modification of system dimensions, most of these efforts become limited because of changes required in late design stages and packaging constraints. In the present paper it is demonstrated that proper design of intake system elements during early design stage will improve the system acoustic performance. Effect of resonators, low frequency filters, high frequency filters is demonstrated through analytical modeling and predictions. Analytical approach is validated by confirming its results with experimental measurements.Experimental measurements of noise inside the passenger compartment were conducted to demonstrate importance of intake system noise towards vehicle passenger compartment noise
