- Summary:
- The quasi-systematic use of coated steels, as well as very high strength steels, has naturally consequences on the stamping process (friction behavior, stick-slip, galling, tool pollution and wear). The aim of this work is to present tool materials and coatings as an opportunity to limit or erase these difficulties. Different tool materials and coatings were evaluated through laboratory tests in terms of friction, galling and tool pollution. As a conclusion, it clearly appears that tool coatings have a significant influence on the tribological behavior of steel sheet, this influence strongly depending on steel sheet coating nature. It is worth noting that there is not an unique solution for all problems, but a judicious selection appears to be a good way to improve the process efficiency
