Summary:
A fast suitability test process is presented to evaluate oxidation catalysts for conversion of particulate and gaseous pollutants in diesel exhaust at temperatures as low as possible. The tests have been carried out with soot-like carbon particles from a spark discharge generator and a granular bed of refractive material coated with several catalysts as particle trap. First of all the particle deposition in the trap has been investigated. The obtained results agree well with the calculations from an extended theoretical model. The continuous regeneration is observed on line by measuring the oxidation product CO2 and the transmitted particle phase. Results obtained with two catalysts are presented, with which the particle oxidation starts at temperatures of 210 and 250°C, respectively
