Summary:
Consider this recent data about the "speed'' of theinformation age: In a sixty-month window beginning in the year1995, the number of cellular phone subscribers increased from 90million to 330 million, the number of people on the internet wentfrom about 5 million to just under 200 million, and notsurprisingly the number of websites grew from a few thousands to 50million. Now further consider that almost every cellular phonesubscriber is also an automobile user, be it as a driver or apassenger. A fabric of mobility soon emerges --- one that is formedby the meshing of the strands of information mobility with those ofpersonal mobility. In this paper we explore a "new frontier'' --- a"territory'' on this multidimensional fabric that isdefined by the demands of seamless mobility. The typical dailycycle of events in our lives involve many different modalities andtime-phases of mobility. We examine the rapidly increasing demandsof seamless mobility in this context. Finally we relate ouranalysis of the emerging fabric of seamless mobility to theevolving driving experience
