Summary:
A Starter/Alternator (S/A) has been developed at Ford Researchlaboratories for hybrid electric vehicle applications. Duringdevelopment, the vehicle concept of operation and the systemperformance requirements were used to select the propertechnology.The specification development, component selection and subsystemoperation process is described. Subsystem performance and vehiclefuel economy are compared and evaluated using hybrid vehiclesimulation analysis. These results can be used to identifypotential subsystem modifications and alternative vehicle controlstrategies
