- Summary:
- This paper discusses the thermal ramifications of using constant current pulse width modulation electronic drive circuits to energize electromagnetic actuators used in digital valves for Diesel fuel injection. The paper develops a differential equation modeling the actuator as an oven whose copper coil acts as the heating element and the thermoplastic encapsulation and surrounding steel are regarded as the oven's walls. These factors are implemented to develop an electrical model equivalent for the oven. The differential equation describing the power dissipation, time, and temperature relationship is solved through the use of Laplace transforms concluding that complex problems can often be handled with simple models
