Summary:
Lack of infrastructure has been recognized worldwide as a critical impediment to the successful introduction of electric vehicles. The Hawaii Electric Vehicle Demonstration Project initiated a joint venture involving the Hawaiian Electric Company and Hawaii Electric Vehicles, Incorporated, to install AeroVironment PosiCharge Rapid Chargers throughout the State of Hawaii. This rapid charging infrastructure will allow motorists anywhere in the State to charge their electric vehicle in less than ten minutes. Hawaii will serve as the model EV Ready State. In a parallel effort, the University of Hawaii and the Pennsylvania State University are developing improved rapid charging algorithms using a unique combination of computational fluid dynamics modeling and laboratory testing
