Summary:
Induction is widely used for heat treating, bonding, brazing and other operations in the automotive industry. Modern high frequency power supplies, material handling and control systems continue to become smaller, more effective and more intelligent. In the induction installation, induction work coils remain the most critical components. Many of them have low overall efficiency, poor controllability of heat pattern, and short lifetimes. The Centre for Induciton Technology in cooperation with Fluxtrol Manufacturing developed Power Inductor Technology for induction process and coil design. This technology includes a detailed analysis of the process specifications, computer simulation for the coil design, application of Fluxtrol or Ferrotron magnetodielectric materials for magnetic flux control and advanced induction coil manufacturing methods. The paper contains the coil design technology description, some examples of Power Inductors being used in the automotive industry and a computer simulation case study are included
