Summary:
The NV 261 part-time four-wheel-drive (4WD) transfer case was designed and developed by New Venture Gear (NVG) for the 1999 General Motor's GMT-800 light duty truck series. A modular system allows two separate models, a light duty (LD) and heavy duty (HD), to be built from one platform. Incorporated in the fully mechanical manual mode shift, two-wheel to four-wheel drive, a high capacity durable dual-cone synchronizer in combination with optimized friction reducing components are used in order to achieve shift effort requirements. Implementation of a fine-pitched chain, sprockets, and the use of magnesium cases achieved requirements for reduced noise levels and weight
