Summary:
The study investigates the performance of conventional two-wheelers versus Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) two-wheelers in the context of light goods transportation. With growing environmental concerns and the push towards sustainable transportation solutions, the study focuses on understanding the effects of using electric or hybrid electric vehicles for small-capacity load carrying applications, in terms of parameters such as mileage, pollution, and range. A simulation model was created in MATLAB, where the various vehicle parameters can be changed and their effect on vehicle performance such as SOC, motor power, motor speed, vs input velocity can be studied. Similar tests were conducted in the real world and the results obtained were compared with simulation results. Results indicate that PHEV two-wheelers significantly reduce emissions and fuel consumption, while maintaining comparable performance in terms of speed and load capacity. However, the initial investment and infrastructure requirements for PHEV two-wheelers pose challenges. The study concludes that, while PHEV two-wheelers offer substantial environmental and operational benefits, strategic planning and investment are crucial for their widespread adoption in the light goods sector
