Hydrogen energy is the best form of energy to achieve "carbon peak, carbon neutrality", and is known as the most promising clean energy in the 21st century because of its diverse sources, clean and low-carbon, flexible and efficient, and wide application sce-narios. Hydrogen internal combustion engine has the advantages of zero carbon emission, high efficiency, high reliability and low cost, and has become one of the important directions of hydrogen energy application. The paper first analyzes the development and application of hydrogen energy industry in recent years, covering many aspects such as laws and regulations, energy structure, realization path, and development status. Then, the research and development process of the hydrogen engine of the technical team of Dongfeng Motor Group Company, Limited R&D Institute Department is introduced, and the effective thermal efficiency of 45.04% is achieved. Finally, the future of hydrogen engine is further prospected
