Summary:
There is a growing demand for new materials that meet mechanical and structural performance requirements, with specific properties, especially in the automotive industry. From a context of innovation and global needs to be met, there is the appreciation of composite materials, specifically applied in the automotive sector, since these can be obtained from the combination of two or more different materials, obtaining certain properties from the individual characteristics of its phases, expanding the availability of materials to be used in this sector. In recent years the use of natural fibers in composite materials for automotive applications has gained relevance due to factors such as sustainability, low weight and good mechanical properties. The attempt to combine innovation and environmental preservation make such applications promising, aiming to obtain ecological solutions, considering that natural fibers of vegetable origin such as sisal, jute and flax are biodegradable and renewable, being an environmentally friendly alternative compared to synthetic fibers such as glass and carbon. Sisal fiber, for example, is already used in coatings, interior panels and car sound insulation. Therefore, the present work aims to present a review about the general panorama of the use of natural fibers and composites reinforced by such fibers at national level in the automotive sector. For this, will be cataloged articles, dissertations, course completion work et cetera for the interval of 2014 to 2025, which are related to this theme, from university libraries, academic platforms or directly in journals dedicated to engineering among other sources of information, being presented the main thermoplastic and thermofix matrices used, such as polypropylene, polyester and epoxy, in addition, the presentation of natural fibers found in Brazil, such as jute, sisal, coconut and curaua. In addition, attending conferences and symposia in the area can provide updated and relevant information to present the main applications, research and trends on the subject. Thus, research on the use of natural fibers in the automotive industry is growing, reflecting the increased demand for more sustainable solutions
