Summary:
Electron-Beam Single-Melting (EBSM) technology is being successfully utilized to produce a variety of titanium alloys. As compared to Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR), EBSM can provide increased material availability and reduced production costs through flexibility in raw materials usage, reduced melting steps, larger ingot sizes, and near net ingot shapes. The chemical homogeneity, structure, and mechanical properties of EBSM products have been studied and equivalency to conventional VAR product has been demonstrated for several titanium alloys. Production experience has demonstrated that EBSM products can be welded, machined, and fabricated using techniques equivalent to those currently employed for conventional VAR product
