- Summary:
- FMVSS201 Head impact is required for car homologation in United States. This Regulation ensures passive safety of interior metallic and plastic parts into cars and car suppliers act to satisfy the specifications on all cover parts as instrument panels, trim panels, et cetera This paper deals with FMVSS201 on A-pillar trim panels. Two location impact points are discussed and numerical simulations made on FE codes are used to propose the best design to absorb the energy produced during the shock without overloading the headform deceleration. Distribution of energy absorption on both trim panel and A-pillar is shown according to the stiffness of A-pillar and numerical solutions are proposed to decrease the Head Injury Criterion value. Finally, database made in Visteon is discussed to help OEMs designing the safest solution
