- Summary:
- Non-smooth surfaces on the metal materials that were similar to surface of animal biont were obtained by laser. The wear-resistances and thermal fatigue resistances of non-smooth and smooth specimens were investigated. The microstructure and worn surfaces of the non-smooth specimens were observed, and the mechanism of crack propagation on the non-smooth surfaces was discussed. The non-smooth unit is playing on the role of baffling wearing process and crack propagation, thus the wear-resistance and thermal fatigue resistance are markedly improved. The non-smooth unit would prevent abrasive particles from penetrating into the matrix material, so that the wear-resistance is improved. The pile-nail effect of non-smooth unit is the main reason for enhancing the thermal fatigue resistances of materials with non-smooth surfaces
