Summary:
This paper is an adaptation from a master' thesis about the architectural design responses to the body's adaptations to a reduced gravity environment. The thrust of this extraction is to study the architectural and biomechanics of stairs in a 1/6 g environment as opposed to a 1 g environment. This paper discusses the ramifications of going up stairs, ramps, and loping considerations such as head height adjustments. Forces, center of gravity, friction, momentum, biomechanics of the knee and hip, and the height from the ground achieved by loping on the moon are discussed. There is also a discussion of stairs vs. ladders as well as the synthesizing of the two modes of vertical circulation
