- Summary:
- Emission inventory has been prepared using bottom up approach by taking vehicle counts at 40 major traffic junctions in Greater Mumbai and fuel based emission factors. A spreadsheet-based model has been developed in this study. The emission factors based on variations in gasoline quality were derived using the US EPA's "Complex" model. A detail emission inventory for gasoline driven vehicles was prepared with respect to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), toxic air pollutants (TAP) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) using vehicle count data, growth rate of vehicles and usage characteristics in Greater Mumbai. Five pollutants were considered in TAP category: Benzene, 1,3-Butadiene, Polycyclic organic matter, Formaldehyde, and Acetaldehyde. The present and projected air toxic emission inventory using planned improvement in gasoline quality has been prepared for estimating the effect of fuel quality modifications. Although the COMPLEX model does not include vehicle technology type, the estimated abatement in emission load using emission factors derived would provide a good sensitivity analysis for gasoline quality modifications. The other major advantage of this approach could be the possible correlation of emission profile computations using fuel sold verses fuel used in a given area
