Summary:
Diesel engines are subjected to increasingly stringent emissions legislations for more than a decade. Despite substantial improvements, new standards scheduled to take the effect in future will require approximately another order of magnitude reduction in both Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions beyond the already stringent standards. Combustion is one of the complex phenomenons in the internal combustion engine, which takes place at a very short period of time and this is responsible for power output and emissions from the engine. In the present work, the early injection of the fuel was modeled by using CFD Software named STAR-CD and the numerical simulation of HCCI combustion and emission characteristics was studied. Two cases of earlier injection were simulated and results were compared
