- Summary:
- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a final rule that mandates flammability reduction on certain transport category aircraft. However, this rule had gone through a controversial commentary period, with comments that confronted it. Relevant to this, the following study gathered data about fuel tank related accidents from the Cabin Safety Research Technical Group (CSRTG) database focusing on aircraft fuel tank explosions. In addition, the study reviewed literature about the mechanics of fuel flammability. The study also accommodated the opposing commentary from Airbus and the Association of European Airlines (AEA). A survey was administered to gather subject matter expert opinion. Consequently, this research concluded whether the final rule has rightly addressed a remedy by comparing all the inputs identified above
