- Summary:
- Head Injury Criteria (HIC) prediction for pedestrian impact analyses during early stages of vehicle development is a challenge for designers and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) analysts because of minimal geometry information for the hood. This paper proposes a HIC prediction tool based on statistical analysis of simulation data from an initial CAE simulation. The HIC prediction tool will be used for pedestrian head impacts on hoods to aid in hood design and under hood components packaging which comprehends pedestrian protection variables.Pedestrian impact HIC performance is a function of various contributing factors like hood thickness, material, deformation space, and also proximity to attachment locations. These parameters have been studied separately and then checked for their combined sensitivity to HIC. With shortened development time, said tools may enable more robust analytical prediction
