- Summary:
- The Brazilian Silent Aircraft Program (Programa "AeronaveSilenciosa) is an initiative of six Brazilian Universities andInstitutes (USP-Poli "University of Sao Paulo - PolytechnicSchool, USP/EESC - University of Sao Paulo - Sao Carlos EngineeringSchool, UFSC - Federal University of Santa Catarina, UFU - FederalUniversity of Uberlandia, UnB - University of Brasilia and IAE -Brazilian Institute of Aeronautics and Space) together with Embraerto develop methodologies and solutions for the aircraft externalnoise problem. The main goal of this initiative is to study and developmethodologies that will allow estimation of aircraft noisegeneration and propagation through three main approaches: numericalsimulation (CAA), analytical and semi-empirical models, and windtunnel and flight tests. The intention has been to create a joint effort includingBrazilian aerodynamic and acoustic researchers to explore andintegrate the three approaches, opening up the possibility for anew technological level in this area in Brazil. Therefore, theobjective now is to integrate and consolidate aerodynamic andacoustic research efforts to encourage a stable, continuous andprofound development. This program started to be organized in 2005, with a projectkick-off in 2008. It is sponsored by Embraer, Fapesp (Sao PauloResearch Foundation) and Finep (Brazilian Innovation Agency). Sincethe beginning, up to total of 90 Brazilian researchers, undergraduate, post-graduate students and engineers have beeninvolved in the program and a lot of important results have beenproduced. The objective of this lecture is to present the technicalchallenges that the program had to overcome and give an overview ofthe results that have been produced
