- Summary:
- Mesh transmission error is one of the major causes of noise of drive train which gets transmitted to inside the vehicle cabin. Apparently, one way to reduce the driveline noise is tackle the noise excitation mechanism at its source. This excitation can be reduced by optimizing the gear teeth micro geometry for minimum Transmission Error (TE). The mesh misalignment and the resultant transmission errors can be analyzed and predicted at the transmission design stage. The entire exercise includes detail design of gear box, testing and validation, model updating to match the test result and micro geometry optimization as a design change for noise reduction, prior to productionThe process of micro geometry optimization provides multiple options of lead and profile corrections with specific response level. The designer then has the choice of solutions for selecting the gear teeth micro geometry based on manufacturing feasibility and achieve TE within acceptable range
