Summary:
An iQ Power reconfigurable touch screen system dramaticallyenhances instrument panel (IP) appearance and functionality at areduced cost to the vehicle. Information displayed on the IP iscompletely reconfigurable at both the OEM and end-user levelsthereby maximizing flexibility in IP design and appearance. Throughsimple end-user commands, or within OEM software upgrades, acompletely new IP appearance can be achieved without purchasing anew vehicle. Reduced OEM manufacturing lead times are also realizedas traditional tooling is eliminated.Design concepts in interior styling and function are captured inelegant sculpted surfaces contrasting ordinary flat panelfaceplates. This is especially true for vehicle center stacks andinstrument panels. Smooth and flowing touch panel surfaces are madepossible by direct application of touch screen components to theback side of contoured touch panel surfaces. This differs fromconventional touch screen technology where touch interfacecomponents are positioned against the face of the visual displaypanel.New and exacting clarity of design, empowered by iQ Powertechnology, uses standard LCD displays placed behind contouredsurfaces. Designers are able to transition between simple andcomplex surface contours to create attractive Human-MachineInterfaces (HMI) between driver and vehicle. Portable electronicdevices (PED) like smart phones, media players, and navigationsystems can wirelessly connect with vehicle functions. Thesedevices extend vehicle features and share information topersonalize vehicle accessories to the individual. HMI applicationscreated by the OEM and 3rd party vendors can offer additionalopportunity for individuals to personalize their vehicle'sappearance and increase available functions.This paper describes how enhanced cockpit layout, end-usercustomization, and custom HMI applications are possible throughinnovative new technology
