- Summary:
- In recent years, due to more and more stringent governmentregulations on diesel emissions, diesel aftertreatment systems haveattracted great deal of attention from both academia and dieselengine industries. Many different devices and approaches, such asUrea SCR, LNT, engine control related EGR and in-cylinder postinjection, have been developed and applied to reduce nitrogenoxides (NOx) emissions. Among those solutions, LeanNOx Trap (LNT)-based emission reduction control systemis one of the common approaches. The NOx storage capacity of an LNT depends on manydifferent factors and operating conditions. Accurate and real-timeestimation of NOx storage is quite important forefficient system controls, particularly for enhancing systemlifespan and reducing overall fuel consumption. A more precisemodeling of NOx storage has more significant impact foroverall system performance. In this paper, we will discuss a fewlinear system models, and extend the results into a new approachfor LNT NOx storage estimation by using systemidentification of a nonlinear autoregressive with exogenous input(NARX) model. Adaptation and on-line training features are alsoproposed, and experimental data have been used for validation andverification of the methodology
