Summary:
This paper presents a novel GPS antenna mounted on the surface of glass such as windshield. The antenna pattern is generated using in-house antenna design simulator we developed. Compared with conventional patch antenna, it has the advantage of thinner and more flexible structure, and broader FWHM (Full Width at Half Maximum) as well. Since the antenna conductor makes a mesh structure, it could also be more transparent so as not to block the driver/passenger's view or affect the vehicle appearance. The design simulator was useful to adjust automatically the peak gain directivity angle according to the inclination of windshield and the resonant frequency as well; therefore, the antenna can be located at various positions as needed. This paper also provides the measurement result of actual antenna with correlation to the result of in-vehicle antenna simulation
