Summary:
To set an accurate engine mount durability specification it is important to know actual 3 axis movement of the engine mount on the proving grounds. Due to the size of test equipment and the limited space at the mount location it is difficult to measure 3 axis movement. 3 axis movement of the engine is measured at 3 locations where the test equipment could be more easily installed. Three points of measured data are entered into software that models the engine movement. The software can generate the movement at each mount location. Using this method we do not have to measure movement of the engine mounts directly. Using this new measurement method while applying knowledge of actual market usage we are able to develop durable engine mounts while minimizing negative impact on vehicle NVH
