Summary:
Catalytic bed have been developed by coating copper and silver as catalyst on 13-X zeolite as base element and its activity in reducing oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and oxidizing carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) in an petrol engine exhaust has been tested. The silver coated 13-X zeolite catalyst studied here, exhibits significant NOx, CO and HC reduction at a space velocity of 15000 h-1 and 13-X zeolite and silver in the ratio of 20:3 by mass. A maximum reduction of 60% in CO and 74% in HC has been observed at higher load. A maximum reduction of 44% in NOx has been observed at higher load for 13-X zeolite and silver in the ratio of 15:3 by mass. Power loss due to back pressure (BP) is negligible. Repeatability tests were conducted after 10 h, 20 h, 30 h and 40 h of use of the catalysts. The deviation in catalytic activity was negligible. A negligible change in the brake specific fuel consumption (BSEC) was observed with catalytic converter (CC) compared with without CC (muffler)
