Summary:
Diesel as the primary fuel for movement of goods and people has proven fuel economy, power and greenhouse gas advantages over other fuels. However diesel fuel produces fine combustion particulates which are emitted into the atmosphere. Significant concern has been raised about the environmental impact of these particulates in high population density mega-cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.Options to reduce the particulate emissions from diesel fuel include costly processing approaches to lower the sulfur in diesel, which results in lower combusted particulate emissions. This paper reviews the reasons for sulfur reduction in diesel fuel and proposes a proven, cost effective complementary approach, which can be implemented immediately. This environmental technology improves the combustion characteristics of all diesel fuels providing an immediate and sustainable reduction in black smoke and particulate emissions
