Summary:
Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) was introduced in Europe in early 80's. In India, however, the dual brake system still continues to be the technology. Sundaram-Clayton Limited (SCL), the leading manufacturer of air brake systems for commercial vehicles in India, took the initiative in 1995 to indigenously develop advanced braking technology systems. The first of these - ABS was successfully commercialized in 2002 on a variety of truck, bus and tractor models. This paper briefly describes the phases of indigenous development, testing, proving and successful commercialization of Sundaram-Clayton ABS
