Summary:
In this investigation, a quick phenomenological model has been formulated and developed to predict particulate matter (PM) emission of diesel engines. The model is based on formation mechanisms of PM and hydrocarbon (HC) of diesel engines, and it can predict the emission concentration of PM via the emission concentration of HC.To validate the model, experiments were carried out in two research diesel engines. Comparisons of the model prediction results with the experimental data show good agreement. The model is useful for computer simulations of electronically controlled diesel engines, as well as electronic control unit (ECU) designs for diesel engines
