Summary:
The International Space Station (ISS) Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) expendable Orbital Replacement Units (ORU) are replaced on a scheduled maintenance cycle. The initial service life values were determined using predicted duty cycles and loads in combination with component development tests and/or design analysis. The loads were conservatively set with margin until operational data could provide more realistic values. Approximately two years of operational experience has now provided additional insight into the loads, duty cycles, and hardware performance. On-orbit operational data, analysis and post mission testing have been used to more precisely define expendable service life margins. As a result, service life has been extended for four ECLS ORU's resulting in significant ISS operational savings
