Summary:
This film dramatises a tragic love affair between Queen Elizabeth I of England and one of her favourites, Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex. It portrays the political and emotional turmoil surrounding their relationship, resulting in Essex's downfall and execution after his affair with the Earl of Nottingham's wife is discovered. The story is adapted from a stage play and focuses on the personal and political conflicts faced by Elizabeth I. Contains German and English intertitles.
