- Summary:
- An shortened adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. The film opens on the steps of the Capitol where a soothsayer is speaking to the court. Caesar leaves with Marc Antony whilst Cassius is seen plotting with another man. It cuts to the athletics scene where Marc Antony wins the race and offers the crown three times to Caesar. Cassius is then seen persuading Brutus to join his conspiracy. Later, Calpurnia tells Caesar of a dream she has had and tries to persuade him not to go to the Capitol. The soothsayer also attempts to warn Caesar in a letter to beware Brutus and to stay away from Cassius and Casca. However, Caesar ignores his letter and proceeds to the capital, where he is murdered by a mob. Brutus goes out to address the people. Then the body of Caesar is brought before the people and Marc Antony delivers his speech, turning the people against the conspirators. Next, it cuts to an army camp. Inside Brutus' tent, he and Cassius argue but they resolve their differences and drink together. Cassius leaves and while asleep, Brutus has a vision of Caesar, who warns him of his imminent death. Brutus is distraught. The conspirators then lead their armies into battle, and loose. In defeat, Cassius makes his servant kill him, while Brutus falls on his sword. Marc Antony then takes the corpse and it is burnt on a pyre. Includes German intertitles
