- Summary:
- The consensual decision by member states to embark upon the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) was hailed as both an act of blind faith as well as a reasoned strategy for conjoint survival. The selections in this collection reach out to address the concerns of: 1. Ordinary Caribbean Citizens - how the CSME will affect their daily lives; 2. Students - who need a greater appreciation of the evolution of the CSME; 3. Academics - interested in CARICOM; and 4. Politicans - needing to improve their understanding of the efforts and actions for implementation of the CSME.The Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas - the framework underpinning the CSME - is examined together with a progress report of evolution and implementation activities. Important dimensions of the evolutionary process are scrutinized, highlighting problems of execution and suggested solutions. The book is rounded out with proposals for the way forward.Contributors include former Caribbean prime ministers, diplomats, academics, businesspersons, and members of the judiciary.
