William Duane; sold by him in 1822 to the Athenaeum of Philadelphia (50); sold in turn by it, 22 December 1885, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
Historical Society copy has inscription on verso of half-title: Illustrissimo, & optimo viro, Benja. Francklin; américanae libertatis ristauratori, Législatori, in physica & Ethica principi, qui in dicendo et agendo prae omnibushujus saeculi viris excellentem se praebuit hoc--a levissimum opus (sed ut superis vilia Thura) .
