The book provides an in-depth introduction to this important scientific device from five aspects: the proposal and site selection of the 500 meter aperture spherical radio telescope, scientific and application goals, engineering concepts, construction, and future prospects. FAST was proposed by Chinese astronomer Nan Rendong in 1994 and took 22 years to complete. Led by the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it is the world's largest single aperture and most sensitive radio telescope with independent intellectual property rights.
